Where 2.0

Socialight is going to be in the Bay Area in California at the end of June for the first O’Reilly Where 2.0 Conference. The conference is June 29-30, 2005 and covers “the movement of mapping and location technology from the theoretical to the masses, illustrating the creativity that’s waiting to be unleashed as the tools and data become readily available”.
There are a ton of people going who we can’t wait to meet.
Going to E3

Socialight will be heading to E3, the giant Electronic Entertainment Expo / gaming conference in Los Angeles in mid-May. We’ll be there from the 18th-20th of May so please drop us a line if you will be in the area and would like to meet.
Dan Melinger, a founder of Kamida, the company behind Socialight, will be speaking on a panel at Digital Hollywood Spring on April 1, 2005 in Los Angeles, CA. The panel is entitled, “Media at the Edge of the Network: Are Location-based Media Networking Operators the Dark-Horse Media Titans of the Future?”. Joining Dan on the panel will be Shawn Conahan of Intercasting Corporation, Mike McGuire of Gartner, and Patrick Holohan of NewBay Software. Socialight in South Korea

Michael and Dan each presented a paper and took part in panel discussions at the Mobile Communications and Social Change conference organized by Dr. Shin Dong Kim in Seoul, South Korea. The conference took place during October 2004 and covered a broad set of topics concerned with both Eastern and Western mobile communications. Each can be downloaded as a PDF file below.

A poster on Socialight was presented at UbiComp 2004, the Sixth International Conference on Ubiquitous Computing, which was held September 7-10, 2004 in Nottingham, England. The annual conference is the premier forum in which to present research results in all areas relating to the design, implementation, application and evaluation of ubiquitous computing technologies. It brings together leading researchers from a variety of disciplines and geographical areas who are exploring the frontiers of computing as it moves beyond the desktop and becomes increasingly interwoven into the fabrics of our lives. Also at the conference, Dan Melinger of Kamida presented a paper during the UbiComp in the Urban Frontier workshop entitled “Privacy’s Role in Mobile Social Software for the Urban Community.”
